Retirement and me

March 20, 2016

So things came to a head in my job and I was given the option of taking retirement so I did.  I needed to save my pension .  That was why my retirement began.  It actually started with a month long vacation in November.   One of the things I’ve known for a long time is that I have never had a job that I really enjoyed.  So much so that I have difficulty believing that it is possible for me.

This may explain why I am having difficulties finding a job.  It’s hard for me to get in that headspace of enthusiasm.

But I have been thinking of what I would like to do and if I can manage on my pension with a part time job to bring me close to what I had been earning.  (It was not much and half of that is barely survivable.)

I am trying to get my head together, get rid of all of my ridiculous amount of stuff – mostly books.  If I got books down to a manageable level then I could get rid of bookshelves.  I can definitely get rid of clothing that no longer works for me.  And I have lots of paper to go through.

What I would like is to make a dedicated space in my apartment for painting and drawing.  To set aside a dedicated time for that.  Make that a job for me.  Eventually, to try to sell some things.    This is an area where I have been way too timid where it takes a bold person to even make the attempt.

So:  retirement from the university signals time for me to really be who I am.
